The Basic: Cardio

Cardio machines are the most common things in any gym, it is the primary attraction for newbie gym goers. However, almost anyone from newbie to pro gymnast have to get on the cardio machine at some point, making the cardio zone the most "basic" zone in the gym.

Basic

Slang meaning: unoriginal, uninteresting, bland, boring and not worth investing time into.

The problem: cardio machines are very repetitive and boring, unlike walking which people experience different feelings every step they take.

It is understandable that most basic gym goer would jump on the cardio to pass the time. However with their boring nature, there is simply not enough encouragement to push the user further pass their ability.

The solution: Using technology, every time a user step on a cardio machine, their surrounding changes to fir their need, the ceiling extend to shield them from sunlight, air blows from the back to cool them down the faster they move. This solution encourages the user to feel more engaged in the activity.

The Selfie Zone

The selfie zone:
Free weights

The free weight area is the one that attracts people most for taking pictures. Although this might seem like an unnecessary habit to address, most people's purpose when going to the gym is to look good. If the gym does not have good lighting strategy to make people look better going to the gym and see their progress, then people will get bored easily.

Problem: provide good lighting to emphasize the muscles, but also light up the face.

Solution: spotlights are perfect at creating high contrast and shadows, having a light directly above helps emphasize a person's muscle features and physique, while a directed diffuse light helps lighten up the face, providing the perfect combination to boost one's physical appearance.
